Aimed at the beginner or the more advanced dancer wishing to revisit and strengthen elementals, this course goes back to basics: over six weeks, we will become acquainted with the conditioning required to build the body for tribal fusion movement, and also be introduced to drills for building muscle memory of the fundamental movements. All new students must register for Elemental Movements before doing other courses.
By the end of the course, dancers will be acquainted with the basic components of the tribal fusion movement vocabulary, and will also have some practice integrating them into combinations. This class will involve yoga- and pilates-based conditioning, so come dressed to move and bring a bottle of water and a yoga mat.

Â
8 September – 13 October: Pure Drills @ Urdang Academy
Wednesday nights, 8:00pm-9:30pm; 6-Week Course £60, Drop-in £12 – To register, click HERE.
For students who have completed the Elemental Movement course, it’s time to practice the tribal fusion movement vocabulary to build a solid foundation in muscle memory.
This is a vigorous class is for nailing down the essentials, and polishing them through practice until they shine. Pure Drills focuses on the basics: Undulations, taxims, mayas, chest figure-8s, arms, umis, chest circles, etc. This is a chance to put the ideas for good technique into action, carrying the information from the Elemental Movement over into a regular focused practice.
This class will involve yoga- and pilates-based conditioning, so come dressed to move and bring a bottle of water and a yoga mat.

Â
9 September – 14 October: Combinations & Experimentation @ Urdang Academy
Thursday nights, 6:30pm-8:00pm; 6-Week Course £60, Drop-in £12 – To register, click HERE.
Aimed at the dancer familiar with tribal fusion, this class is intended for students who have completed the Elemental Movement and Pure Drills courses, and are seeking to expand their range of movement in the tribal fusion vocabulary and gain a sense of how movements work together.
Over six weeks, we will put technique into practice–honing moves through drills designed to get you improvising and building combinations for dance. Each class will deal with a handful of moves and ideas in detail, and through these we will explore concepts essential to constructing one’s own choreography, such as musicality, transferring movement, and fluidity in improvisation.
Classes may be taken as a course, or on a drop-in basis, though there are ongoing projects within the course from week to week. This class will involve yoga- and pilates-based conditioning, so come dressed to move and bring a bottle of water and a yoga mat.
That’s all for now! I hope all is well with you, and if you need more information, get in touch!

Middle Eastern drum group sessions

Hello, hope you all had a great summer time!

I am planning to organise a beg/intermediate frame drum lesson a week as well as a darbuka lesson a week from 27th Sept for 12 weeks.

Monday (frame drum) and Wednesday (darbuka) evenings (6:30-8pm). If you think these days are not good for you
I could try and arrange something for Tuesday eve or Saturday in the mornings (11-12:30 and 1:30- 3pm) also but this last one is still tricky for me.

Fees for each would cost £145 for the whole 12 weeks if you pay it up front or £90 or 6 weeks.

Lessons will include warm ups and body percussion to enhance body awareness, sense of timing, rhythm and co-ordination. We will also listen to lots of
Middle Eastern and Balkan music and eventually try to learn to play the rhythms of some tunes. Lots of calls and response in group activities and improvisation are going to be encouraged through out the sessions.

You would need to bring your own instrument. If you don’t have it let me know and we arrange something for you. I only have a limited
amount of drums. If you want to learn to play the Riq (Arabic tambourine), you would have to find one online cos it’s very difficult to find it in a shop in London.

Hope to hear from you soon so i can have a better notion of who can come and when, etc,

Bests,

Elizabeth
